Physical Ecoactivity in Spain: Moving Together, Caring Together

How the Physical Ecoactivity youth exchange in Iscar used movement, time in nature and a supportive group atmosphere to turn big ideas about sustainability into simple, lived experiences

The first day of Physical Ecoactivity started calmly. We had a short welcome, a tour of the accommodation, simple getting‑to‑know‑each‑other activities, and space to understand the basic group rules. At first people were a bit shy, but slowly the group started to relax and feel more comfortable with each other. In the evening, music and dancing helped break the ice. It was not a formal part of the programme, more a spontaneous moment that made it easier to let go of stress and meet others in a lighter way. After that, it was easier to talk, laugh and feel like a group, not just individuals who had just met.

What the project is about?

Physical Ecoactivity hosted by Asociacion Brainstorming connects three important elements of this youth exchange: movement, nature and community. It is an Erasmus+ youth exchange that explores how physical activity can support wellbeing, inclusion and a more responsible attitude towards the environment. Instead of staying only in theory, the project uses practical activities, group work and shared experiences to build small habits that participants can take home.

A day full of action and learning

Some days of the project were quite intense. One of them included focused sessions, teamwork on the final result, a visit to a local waste collection centre and the Centre for Community Inclusion in Iscar. From morning to evening there was a lot of information, movement and coordination, which was sometimes tiring but also engaging.

The visit helped make sustainability more concrete. It is different to see how waste is collected and processed in reality, and to think about what that means for everyday choices at home. By the end of the day many participants felt both tired and satisfied, with a clearer picture of why responsible behaviour matters.

Valladolid moments and Erasmus+ visibility

The programme also included time to get to know Valladolid and its surroundings. During the city visit, participants explored the main spots, interacted with the local environment and shared information about the Erasmus+ Programme in a simple, informal way. These activities showed that Erasmus+ is not only about travelling, but also about meeting new contexts and bringing ideas back to local communities.

Why it felt good to be part of this?

What many participants remember most from Physical Ecoactivity is the group atmosphere. There was a clear structure and planned sessions, but the most important element was the support between people. Teamwork, small gestures of encouragement and everyday cooperation helped create a sense of belonging. Not every moment was easy or perfect, and there were differences in energy, language skills and expectations. Still, the group usually chose openness and inclusion, and that made learning feel more natural. This is a good example of how non‑formal education can look when there is time, patience and care for the people involved.
